With a new team and two challenging races in Spain already under her belt, the year has gotten off to a flying start for Karlijn Koops. We spoke with her about her move to O'Shea Red Chilli Bikes, her ambitions, and her first experiences with Airoman.

A warm welcome at O'Shea
The move to O'Shea felt like a logical and positive step for her. "I'm really enjoying being with the team. Because I already knew a lot of my teammates, I immediately felt comfortable," she says. "I chose O'Shea mainly because of their program. It's very varied, which helps me get out of my comfort zone more quickly." It was precisely that variety that was decisive for her. New incentives and different types of races will allow her to further develop as a rider this year.

Good balance in preparation
The winter and the first few months of the season went according to plan. "So far, the preparations have been going very well, and I've found a good balance between training and other things in life," she explains. A significant part of that preparation took place in Spain, where her season also kicked off. "The climbing competitions there are a great way to warm up for the spring. At the same time, these are races I haven't ridden before. That's precisely why I've learned so much."

A punchy rider who loves chaos
Karlijn has clear goals for the upcoming season. "I'm looking forward to adding value to the team's results with my own specialties and learning from others." She describes herself as a punchy, classics-oriented rider. "I prefer to ride races that are as chaotic as possible," she says with a smile. "That's where I feel most in my element." The Belgian spring season seems perfectly suited to her.

First experience with Airoman
The collaboration with Airoman is also new to her. "I tested the Airoman socks and overshoes for the first time at the last few races," she says. "As someone with small feet, I was worried they would be too big, like with many other brands, but they fit well and didn't fall off. Definitely a plus."
